The official in charge of the mosque in Gaafu Alifu Kanduhulhudhoo has been arrested on suspicion of sexual abuse of a 12-year-old girl.
Police said that the suspect is aged 55, and that the court has given him a detention period of three days.
A council member of Kanduhulhudhoo told Sun Online that the suspect is the victim’s stepfather, and people came to know of the abuse when she told her family.
This case is under investigation by Maldives Police Service.
