Palestinian President extends invitation to President Yameen to visit Palestine

President of Palestine Mahmood Abbas has extended an invitation to President Yameen Abdul Gayoom to visit Palestine.

Spokesperson at President’s Office Ibrahim Muaz Ali said that the invitation was extended by Foreign Affairs Minister of Palestine Riyad Al Maliki, when he paid a courtesy call on President Yameen today.

Muaz said that President Yameen accepted the invitation, and said that it was his pleasure to work towards strengthening the close bilateral relations between Maldives and Palestine.

On 29 November 2013, in a message on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, President Yameen reiterated the Maldives’ consistent support towards the establishment of an independent State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Recalling that the Maldives was a proud co-sponsor of the resolution that won the Palestine the non-observer status at the UN, President Yameen said the Maldives would continue to show support for Palestinian membership in any other international organization.
