PPM warns it will take action against members who run as independent candidates

Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has said that it will take action against its members who run in the Parliamentary Election as independent candidates.

In an announcement today, PPM said that it will only support candidates representing government coalition parties in the Parliamentary Election, and reminded that the party’s Basic Regulation prohibits party members running for election as independent candidates.

PPM also strongly condemned the use of the party’s name and logo by some independent candidates, and called on relevant authorities to take action against them.

PPM has 50 candidates, Jumhooree Party (JP) has 28 candidates, Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) has three candidates, Adhaalath Party has 12 candidates, and Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has 85 candidates contesting the upcoming Parliamentary Election. In addition, there are also 120 independent candidates contesting the election.
