Male City Council has been issued an ultimatum till next Monday to handover the Usfasgandu area to the Housing Ministry in accordance with the decision by the cabinet. Housing Minister Dr Mohamed Muizzu revealed that a letter had been forwarded to the City Council to handover the Usfasgandu area to the Ministry by next Monday.
“We have forwarded a letter to the council asking them to relinquish control of the Usfasgandu area to us,†Muizzu said.
Housing Ministry had stated earlier that the Usfasgandu area has been entrusted to the city council for various leisure activities of the general public.
The Ministry had further claimed that the council had issued the area to MDP till the end of June in violation of the intended purpose and had forwarded a letter urging the council against such actions.
However, the City Council had stressed that the Ministry had not discussed the Usfasgandu issue with them and noted that the use of “brute force†was not the right way to resolve such matters.
