MDP Feydhoo constituency backs decision to oust Alhan

Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Feydhoo constituency has backed the party's national congress decision to oust Feydhoo constituency MP Alhan Fahmy from the position of Vice President of the party. MDP Feydhoo constituency on Sunday released a resolution accepting the national congress decision to oust MDP President Dr. Ibrahim Didi and Vice-President Alhan Fahmy, in its 104th congress meeting held on April 30.

The resolution came nearing a month after Alhan’s removal which stated that the 104th national congress meeting was an important meeting where pressing matters were addressed and actions taken. It also stressed that it would regard any unanimous decision reached within the MDP national congress as under the basic regulation of MDP.

“We accept that grievances and differences in opinion reflect democracy. We also accept that the decision reached by the national congress was democratic. Hence, Feydhoo constituency declares that we accept the decision of the national congress according to the views of the general party members,” MDP Feydhoo constituency declaration read.

MDP had ousted former President and Vice-President of the party and had opened applications for the two vacant posts. MDP had stated that a no-confidence motion had been passed against them as they had acted out of the party line and carried out activities that had created disharmony within the party.

However, Didi and Alhan had repeatedly said that they were ousted by some influential people who conspired against them within the party and that they cannot be removed without details of just grounds.
