Tire on Air India plane blows up

A tire on an Air India airplane blew up today while landing at the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA). An official from GMR which manages the airport said that the tire blew on a plane travelling from Trivandrum, India, as it landed at the airport at noon and that no other damages were observed.
The official said that the noise of the blast was heard loud and that the passengers onboard would have heard it out loud as well.
“The plane has now been brought to the apron. It is being checked for other possible damages,” the official said.
Such incidents are frequent at INIA as the runway tar layer has been damaged. Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) which had previously managed the airport had stated that the runway is not in an appropriate condition to be used. Tweet Bookmark Print Badge the Comments!
