President's Office website has stated that the National Security Advisor of India Shivshankar Menon paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Waheed today. At the meeting, President Waheed expressed his gratitude to the Indian government for their continuous assistance in all areas. National Security Advisor Menon also highlighted on the close bilateral relations between the Maldives and India. He also assured President Waheed that the Indian government will fully cooperate and provide continuous assistance to the Maldives.
Presidentâ™s Office also informs that discussions were also held on the political situation within the Maldives and also briefed him on the talks being held with the Commonwealth. The President also briefed the National Security Advisor on the recommendations by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) concerning the economic situation of Maldives.
Meanwhile the Maldivian High Commissioner to India, Abdul Azeez Yusuf has said that the President will not discuss the political issues at hand with the Indian government on his visit and that the purpose of his visit is to strengthen diplomatic ties between the two nations.
