Child suspects in Muheeth's murder deny charges

The underage children suspected to be involved in the murder of Abdul 'Bobby' Muheeth, 21 of G. Veyru, who was stabbed to death last February, have denied all charges. As the media is not allowed in court during cases involving underage children as their identities are kept undisclosed.

A Juvenile Court official said that the hearings on the case had begun last Thursday and that the three underage defendants had denied the charges and had been granted the rights to an attorney following their requests. The State has charged all three with murder in the first degree.

The official also said that another hearing for the case is scheduled later this month. He added that the three children were held in police detention so far; however the court had not ordered to detain them till the end of the case.

Previously the court had issued a 15 day house arrest order for one of the children which was later overruled by the high court and ordered to transfer the child back to police custody.

The police had previously stated that two of the underage children had been lead suspects in the crime.

Muhujath Ahmed Naasih of Abulagee Ge, Gaaf Dhaal Atoll Gahdhoo, Mohamed Maimoon of Zaithoonige, Lhaviyani Naifaru and Ali Mushahfau of Sultan Villa Seenu Atoll Maradhoo are also allegedly involved in the murder according to the police.

A Prosecutor General’s Office official stated that the case of these three men involved in Muheeth’s murder had also been sent to court, but their trial is yet to begin.
