The close friends of Ibrahim 'Ibbe' Waheed were in a state of shock and utter disbelief over his untimely death while enjoying the weekend in the popular vacation island 'Kuda Bandos' yesterday. The unexpected turn of events left everyone flabbergasted, as no one would have even remotely expected the fun weekend to end in such misery within a few moments.
Ibbe who had been surrounded by many close friends, had been with his girlfriend in his last moments. According to family members, Ibbe had been contemplating marriage and had even mentioned it to some of them.
“We have so far learned that Ibbe had gone canoeing with his girlfriend. His friends said that they had made their way to the sand bank near Kuda Bandos. Shortly after, they saw the canoe drifting away, while both of them swam after it. Only the girl was able to make her way back to the sand bank. Ibbe was just unlucky,†a family member in the cemetery told Haveeru.
Ibbe’s friends had immediately made attempts to search for him and had also notified the authorities.
Police jointly with the Coast Guard had launched an operation around 4.00 that afternoon. Ibbe’s lifeless body was discovered about 15 minutes into the search.
It is yet to be determined the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident as his friends and family had found it difficult to recount the events.
The 23 year old has been described as hardworking and benevolent by his friends.
