Criminal Court yesterday sentenced a man for six months after being charged with carrying an axe on the street. Police had discovered the axe tucked on the waist band of Male Registry 01017 Nishath Naseerâ™s shorts on the night of February 11 after he was stopped while riding on a motorcycle with a group of people.
The court verdict stated that it was proven by the account of Nishath that an axe had been discovered in his possession. However, it cannot be proven beyond reasonable doubt whether the accused had planned to use the item as a weapon with deadly or intimidation intent.
Though Nishath had claimed that he was taking the axe home when he was arrested, in light of the circumstances and the time, as he had the axe concealed in his clothing it proved of malicious intent, verdict further said.
Henceforth, Nishath was found guilty beyond reasonable doubt of being in violation of Article 3 (3) of the âœBill on threats, weapons and sharp objectsâ, Criminal Court verdict read.
