A petition has been filed with the Local Government Authority (LGA) to take action against the Male City Council for its failure and incompetence in providing various services to the people. The petition filed by some individuals stated that the people had been deprived of many fundamental services due to the adverse effects of political influence within the Council.
It further highlighted that the Council had failed to provide various services and development of the capital Male and its districts specified in the mandate of the Council under the constitution and the decentralization act.
The petition stated that the people are dissatisfied as the maintenance and public works are delayed as the rainy season approaches. The petition also stated that the council had failed to work for a greener city, to address waste management and to provide solutions for the problems related to the mosques.

He said that even if the petition had been submitted, more people were still signing the petition. The petition had been submitted with the signatures of 50 people.
CEO of LGA, Ahmed Shukury said that he had not received the petition yet but it might have been received by the office.
