Medianet has awarded the broadcasting rights of the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship, commonly referred to as Euro 2012 in the Maldives to Television Maldives (TVM) and Villa TV (VTV). During a ceremony held in Medianet today the agreement to award the rights to broadcast the prestigious tournament which commences in Poland and Ukraine next month was signed by Financial Director Ahmed Nashid on behalf of Medianet.
The agreement was signed on behalf of VTV by CEO Ibrahim Khaleel while Mohamed â˜Mondhuâ™ Asim signed for TVM.
After signing the agreement, Nashid said that this was the first time two TV channels had been granted the rights to broadcast a single tournament.
âœThis is the first time the rights have been awarded to two parties, which would make it really easy for the people to watch the Euro matches,â Nashid added.
He further revealed that preparations for the tournament had commenced a while back.
âœAs a result of our efforts, this yearâ™s Euro would be broadcast through a direct live feed straight from the match venues. That is the difference this year as in previous years we had brought the matches through a big sports channel such as ESPN,â Nashid detailed.
Nashid also said that the commencement of the Euro championship would be a good distraction and âœbreakâ from the present political activities in the country.
âœDay in day out all we see is some political activity. But the matches would be a well earned break from politics,â he said.
