Nasheed has proposed a name to NEC: Inthi

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has revealed that former President Mohamed Nasheed has proposed a name that fits the criteria specified by the government to the National Enquiry Commission (NEC) set up to investigate the incidents events that led to the transfer of power on February 7. MDP Spokesperson Imthiyaz ‘Inthi’ Fahmy said that it has been disclosed that Nasheed has proposed a name that fulfilled the criteria to the NEC and that the commission will reveal the nominees identity in due course.

“The person is not involved in politics. The commission or any other relevant body will reveal the name when the time comes. I have also come to know that the person fits the criteria specified by the government,” he said.

The government had set the terms that any member proposed from Nasheed’s side should not have participated in any political activities within the past two years and should not have sided with any ideologies regarding the downfall of his administration.

Besides these terms the government also set that the member should be well educated and accepted by society as unprejudiced.

The first few names proposed by Nasheed had been rejected by the government and he was given a deadline till May 31 to propose a new name in line with the set criteria.
