Some people confess to stealing money from Baarah island office’s safe: police

MALE, June 26 (HNS) -- Some people have confessed to stealing Rf60,000 from the safe of the island office of Haa Alifu atoll's Baarah island, police said Thursday. Assistant Commissioner of Police Major Ibrahim Latheef also confirmed that most of the money stolen has been recovered. However, he did not reveal the identity of those who confessed to the theft, nor the amount of money recovered. The safe was broken into on the evening of the 11th of this month. "The case is still under investigation. We will reveal more information once the investigation is over," Latheef told Haveeru. The safe at Baarah was broken into three days after the safe of the island office of Noonu atoll's Kendhikulhu was stolen. The Kendhikulhu safe was stolen on the 8th of this month with more than Rf100,000 in cash.
