Team Gayoom wins badminton match opening Government Employees’ Club’s annual sports event

MALE, Aug 21 (HNS) - President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's team won the badminton match played Tuesday evening to open the 12th annual sports event of the Government Employees' Club.Gayoom kicked off the tournament with badminton matches played between a team of the Presidential Palace and a team from the government recreation club. Gayoom teamed up with Hussain Mohamed Didi to form the Presidential Palace team, and won the opening match by two sets to nil against the Employees' Club team consisting of Ibrahim Mohamed Manik and Mohamed Adam.Sports Minister Mohamed Zahir Hussain and Public Works Minster Umar Zahir were among the spectators of the opening event. The 12th annual sports event of the Government Employee's Club will hold tournaments of billiard, volleyball, dart, chess, carom, and table tennis among its many events.Some 126 members of the Club are participating the tournaments.
