All Party Talks to resume tomorrow after Elections decision

Subsequent to the decision by the Elections Commission on the questions raised about the legitimacy of opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) over the ousting of the party President through a no confidence motion, the temporarily halted All Party Roadmap Talks is set to resume tomorrow. Mediator of the Talks Ahmed Mujthaba said today that following the decision by the Election Commission over the legitimacy of MDP, there were no issues obstructing the resumption of the all party discussions.

“Hence the meeting will take place tomorrow afternoon,” Mujthaba said.

The last meeting of the Roadmap Talks on May 5 had come to a premature end after the other political parties had questioned the legitimacy of MDP following the ousting of the party’s President and Vice President through a no confidence motion.

Following the issue, the Moderator had decided to halt the Talks pending a decision by the Elections Commission in relation to the matter.

Elections Commission had stated earlier that it had no legal authority to investigate the matter, in response to a letter submitted by the deposed President of MDP Dr Ibrahim Didi.

Following the reply by the Elections Commission, Dr Didi had stressed that he would file the case of his removal from MDP in court.
