Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has revealed that discussions were underway to seek an alternative to charging Goods and Services Tax (GST) from ferry transportation services. Chief Executive Office Dr Ahmed Adham detailed that the decision had been made against charging GST from Villimale, Hulhumale and airport express ferry services.
âœWe can begin charging GST from a primary service as an alternative to taking GST from ferry services. Hence we are discussing the matter with the companyâ™s board,â Adham added.
He also said that a method to obtain GST would be declared in the near future as a substitute to charging the tax from boat ferry services.
However, he did not disclose further details.
GST is now being charged from the bus services in the capital Male where an additional 30 laari is being charged as GST to the MVR5 bus fare.
