Police have denied any plans to dismantle the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) camp set up at the Usfasgandu area behind Dharubaaruge. An SMS circulated widely last night stated that the Police were planning to dismantle the MDP camp last night and several supporters of MDP gathered to the area as a result.
“We’re very disappointed that such a rumor circulated regarding us when we had no such plans. Those messages contained false information and was very irresponsible of whomever maybe behind it,†an official said.
Male City Council and the Housing Ministry are in conflict over the Usfasgandu area.
The Council has been asked to hand over the administration of the area to the Ministry but refuses to follow through.
