Clinics to start Aasandha from tomorrow with a charge

Aasandha Company has said that the private hospitals and clinics will commence treatment of patients under the National Health Insurance scheme 'Aasandha' with effect from tomorrow. Aasandha Company Managing Director Mohamed Shafaz said that an agreement has been reached with ADK and eight other clinics to provide the service by a taking a co-payment. These clinics include Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Hospital, ASL Medical Centre, Blood Diagnostics, Central Medical Clinic, Central Clinic, Dr. Jihad Medical Centre and two Clinics of Eye Care.

He said that the clinics had agreed not to exceed the prices allocated by the company. However, the agreed prices were not revealed.

Shafaz said that the prices will be revealed on their website sometime today.

“We have declared certain rates under the scheme. The difference in the prices they have proposed can be taken. For example if Aasandha covers MVR50 for general consultation while the clinic charge is MVR100, then the balance MVR50 would be charged from the patient,” Shafaz explained.

He said that the prices offered for a specialist under the scheme is MVR 100 and that if the price at the clinic for specialists is MVR 200, the patient must pay the balance.

Shafaz said that while the clinics are to start the service, prescriptions will be issued through a separate portal. He said that the pharmacies will not accept prescriptions not associated with Aasandha scheme.

“Normally doctors give handed prescriptions and at the moment pharmacies are providing the drugs to these prescriptions” Shafaz said.

Aasandha Company stated that co-payments must be taken in order to sustain the scheme. Despite the decision, government hospitals would take no charge for Aasandha.

Shafaz said that the initiation of Aasandha scheme in these clinics would ease the process of consulting doctors.
