Will act as a shield against brutality: MDP

The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has stated that it will not stand in the way of those how had suffered from state brutality on February 7 and 8 from "expressing themselves." A press release issued by the party’s secretariat stated that when those who have experienced the “bitter brutality” go on to “express themselves” they are being unjustly punished and that the party condemns the actions of the government in the strictest of terms. It was also stated that MDP will act as a shield against brutality.

“Though a group of people are denying and trying very hard to cover up the inhumane treatment of protesters or February 7 and 8, those who had seen and felt and experienced the brutality will go on to spread the truth, share their experiences and voice their emotions,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, President Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has said that government leaders and employees are still being harassed by the MDP and that he would not join negotiations until the harassment stops.
