The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has said that it will celebrate August 12-13, better known as Friday. MDPâ™s website states that the day celebrated by MDP against brutality will marked this year at a special meeting held for the occasion on next Monday where a video presentation prepared on the topic brutality will be aired. It also stated that an exhibition based on theme brutality will also be opened for viewing on that day.
It was written that August 12-13 is celebrated to mark the brutal treatment of protesters against the 30-year regime of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom on the very dates in 2004, and the website included that former President Nasheed had been treated very brutally by the Police on the first anniversary of Black Friday following his arrest while sitting peacefully at the Republic Square marking the day.
MDP revealed that individuals as well as groups willing to assist the party mark the day have the chance to do so via the party Secretariat.
