Seven year old gravely injured in accident

A seven year old boy has been gravely injured in a motor cycle accident early last night in Raa Atoll Meedhoo. Mahir Ibrahim of Meedhoo, Chanbeyleege was injured in the accident.

Meedhoo council President Ahmed Naseem last night said that the boy sustained severe trauma to the head in the accident which took place at around 8.15 last night. He said that various wounds were visible on different areas of the head, nose and ears. He said that Mahir has now been transferred from Meedhoo health centre to Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital.

Council President said that the boy resided at the house opposite the mosque and that the accident probably took place right after he concluded the tharaaveeh prayer.

“We were in the mosque at the time. The boy was also with us. We are not sure if the accident had taken place as he had tried to cross the road or even after it” President of the council said.

He said that the motorcycle had skidded about 20 feet even after hitting the boy. He said that observing the skid marks, it can be assumed that the vehicle had applied its brakes from a good distance away.

Police said that the speeding motorist was a 17 year old boy and that he had not received any major injuries and that the police are currently investigating the case in Meedhoo.
