Ex-MP Ismail Abdul Hameed released on parole

Former Kaashidhoo constituency MP Ismail Abdul Hameed who was sentenced to exile at the end of last August convicted of unfair unlawful influence of authority to gain profit has been released on parole. Home Ministry earlier had stated that Hameed had remained under house arrest 10 months after his sentence to banishment, as an island for his exile could not be decided. Ministry also had said that that while part of his sentence had been carried out, Hameed had also applied for parole and that it was being looked in to.

Though the former MP is out on conditional release, Haveeru has been unable to confirm the conditions of his release. It has also been found that Hameed has been released for a period of one year.

Meanwhile Hameed had refused to comment when contacted over the matter.
Hameed was sentenced after being found accountable for signing an acknowledged document roughly six months before receiving a garbage transporter ‘Ufuli’ vessel which gave a Singapore company undue profit.

The agreement to buy the vessel stated that fifty percent of the total cost is to be paid only upon its delivery but the transaction had been in favor of the company as it was paid fully before the vessel was delivered.
