Foreign Ministry yesterday said that the Indian government has increased the period of visa issued to Maldivian students in India to two years. Student visas had earlier been issued for a period of one year, but with effect from Tuesday, visa would now be granted up to two years for Maldivian students studying in India, Ministry added.
A statement by the Ministry said that the Indian High Commission in Male has informed that visa is granted for two years at a given time on a specific policy based on the documentation submitted. To that end, when applying for visa, the document from the University or College to the Indian Immigration must be made out for a period of two year, Foreign Ministry said.
In addition, the applicantâ™s passport must be valid for a minimum of two and a half years, it added.
Foreign Ministry further revealed that the period of visa issued for family members accompanying Maldivian students in India has also been extended.
The Indian High Commission urges all students to apply for visa as early as possible with sufficient time to process their visa applications, Foreign Ministry informed.
