Inquiry Commission to be recomposed today as new Co-Chair arrives

The retired Judge from Singapore, who is to be appointed to the Commission of National Inquiry (CNI) as part of the agreed revisions to its composition by the government, has arrived in the Maldives today. Government Spokesperson Abbas Adil Riza detailed that following the arrival of the Judge who had served in the Supreme Court of Singapore, the Commission would be recomposed and officially announced by President Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik today.

Abbas further revealed that including the present three members of the CNI Ismail Shafeeu, Dr Ibrahim Yasir, Dr Ali Fawaz Shareef, the Judge from Singapore and former President Mohamed Nasheed’s representative Ahmed ‘Gahaa’ Saeed would make up the five members Commission after it is recomposed.

In addition, two resource persons including a retired Judge from India would also be assigned to the Commission’s mandate.

Government had earlier said that after the changes are made to the Inquiry Commission, it would be afforded two months to complete its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the transfer of power on February 7.
