Sun Travels Chairman and Meedhoo constituency MP Ahmed Shiyam Mohamed has commenced efforts to establish a new political party with him at its helm. Haveeru has learned that Shiyam had held a meeting among the officials involved in its establishment on Tuesday night at Nalahiya Hotel. In the meeting attended by Shiyam himself, the name “Maldives Development Alliance (MDA)†had been decided.
The meeting was attended by more than 100 participants. Haveeru is aware that the registration process will start within a week.
The political party act state that signatures of 50 people are required to apply for party registration process while it is required to submit signatures from 3,000 people within 9 months of application to register a party.
There are 15 political parties currently active in the Maldives.
