Maldives' steady economic decline has led to bankruptcy: Gasim

Prominent businessman and Maamigili constituency MP Gasim Ibrahim has said that the Maldives' steady economic decline has led to bankruptcy. Speaking to news reporters at the Jumhoory Party office, party Leader Gasim Ibrahim said that the actions of some the economy was being adversely affected. To that end he said that there are some calls to boycott the Maldivian tourism industry.

“The nation is bankrupt. In truth, we are not aware of it. We will see this in the near future,” Gasim said.

He said that the people will sense the economic difficulties after the dollar crisis is overcome. Gasim said that the State does not have the necessary finance and that there is a difficulty in paying civil servants.

Gasim said that pointing fingers and blaming others would not solve the issue. He said that the Parliament needs to pass much bills to facilitate the process and that the Parliament is working towards achieving this goal.
