Pro-government Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) stated yesterday that around 87 percent of all the cases sent to the Prosecutor General's (PG) office have been completed and submitted to the courts. Council member of the party Mohamed Waheed said after a meeting at the PG office said that there is no negligence on the part of the PGâ™s office in the delay of progress in cases submitted to the courts.
âœA lot of people note that cases get delayed at the PGâ™s office. We had thought the same before, but when we questioned and clarified our doubts we found out that there are several challenges and obstructions to forwarding a case,â Waheed said.
Waheed noted that the PGâ™s office has to overcome several obstacles before submitting a case to a court amongst which are complaints by the people and several legal obstacles.
One main reason according to Waheed why cases get delayed is because they are submitted to the PGâ™s office with the investigation incomplete or without enough conclusive evidence to back the charges, however he stressed that despite such obstacles the PGâ™s office liaises with the necessary authorities very well in carrying out its responsibilities.
Waheed said that the information obtained by PPM from the PGâ™s office will be included in the partyâ™s Presidential candidateâ™s manifesto. PPM has been meeting with several government offices and organizations to gather information to draft the manifesto.
