Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has responded to the report issued by two high ranking Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) officials, stating that some MNDF officers were involved in the downfall of former President Mohamed Nasheed's government. In response to the report compiled by former Housing Minister Mohamed Aslam and former National Security Advisor Ameen Faisal of Nasheedâ™s administration, MNDF stated that some people are disseminating information aimed at the armed forces, which has not been revealed by MNDF regarding â˜February 7â™.
It stressed that these are irresponsible acts with no truth and that MNDF believes that these people are politically driven and that their writings are based on their political beliefs. It also stated that the army believes that the false information targeted at its individual officers is irresponsible acts.
âœPeople with no knowledge, experience and training of the military, publishing reports about individual officers will not gain anything more than tarnishing the honour and reputation of blameless officersâ MNDF stated.
The army expressed its concern over false accusations made with a certain political belief aimed at creating hatred and distrust among the public towards the institution and strictly condemned such baseless allegations.
âœThe military is ready and will not hesitate to take action against any threats to national security within the contours of the law. We inform that we will not hesitate to take legal action against those who make false accusations in relation the army, create hatred among the people and publish reports which could create distrust among the people towards the institutionâ MNDF stated.
The report published by Aslam and Faisal had included the names of the military officers which they allege to have â˜partakenâ™ in the conspiracy along with the then opposition.
