President Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik yesterday called on all interlocutors to resort to peaceful means in resolving the issues faced by the country. Speaking to the residents of Haa alif Atoll Hoarafushi, during his current tour of the Atoll, President Waheed stressed that despite political affiliation, color or island, all Maldivians must work together for the development of the nation.
Waheed further labeled the violence and unrest that swept across the nation on February 8, following the resignation of former President Mohamed Nasheed as âœmalicious acts of terrorism.â
He urged the Prosecutor General to expedite the cases of the perpetrators being tried in a court of law for their crimes.
President Waheed highlighted that the foremost task as the President was to create unity, peace and happiness among the people of this nation.
As a second duty, Waheed noted the various amendments needed to the laws governing the nation in order to ensure that the country is brought back on track.
He further expressed hope that the Parliament would re-commence with renewed venture to amend the necessary laws in a mutually agreeable order by the political parties.
