Government spokesperson, Abbas Adil Riza said Wednesday that the Parliament sessions have been halted by the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) on Tuesday as they do not wish to resolve the escalating political tension in the country. He said that as the government is in favor of dialogue through âœtwo tracksâ, the moderator of the All Party Roadmap Talks, Ahmed Mujthaba deemed it important that discussions be held within the Parliament.
âœWhile they (MDP) are calling for early elections, it can only be facilitated through the Parliament to pass the relevant legislation. But they are compromising the work as they lack sincerity. To show more excuses.â Spokesperson said.
In a statement made on Wednesday, Abbas stated that the All Party Talks can continue jointly with Parliament. It also stated that the government does not wish any part of the discussions to be at a standstill.
The Parliament sessions were indefinitely suspended by the Parliament Speaker on Tuesday as MDP MPs continuously obstructed the sessions and committee meetings. While MDP stated that they do not believe that they have any work to do in the Parliament as long as the people are being charged for National Health Insurance Scheme â˜Aasandha.
