A 65 year old man has been found dead in Noonu Atoll Maafaru last night. Noonu Maafaru, Hih-faseyha, Hassan Abu Bakuru's body was discovered at his residence by two women and a man who had gone to visit him as they had not heard from him in a while. Abu Bakuru, had recently received a lump sum payment of the monthly allowance given by the government to people older than 65 years. Haveeru has learned that Abu Bakuruâ™s feet were bound when he was found.
A local resident, who spoke to Haveeru wishing to remain anonymous, said that the Abu Bakuru was last seen on Monday. Referring to witnesses who saw the body he told Haveeru that his two feet were bound and that he had been gagged with a piece of cloth and that a T-shirt had been laid over his face.
The police had closed off the area from the public for their investigation. A councilor from Maafaru detailed that the police investigation team had taken crime scene photos and had sent them to Male and is now awaiting further instructions.
Abu Bakuru had a wife, two sons and a daughter. His daughter who lives in Noonu Kendhikulhudhoo arrived in Maafaru last night. Both his sons live in Male and his wife was also in Male at the time.
The news came as a shock to the islanders as they finished Maghreb prayers last night.
Abu Bakuruâ™s body has been discovered under suspicious circumstances after a sixteen year old school boy studying in Dharumavantha School grade 9 was found stabbed to death early yesterday morning at a park in Henveiru district in Male.
