Due trial report of MP Adil's case leaves decision on appeal still pending

Prosecutor General's Office has claimed that the pending decision of appealing the case of Maradhoo constituency MP Hassan Adil was due to the fact that the trial report of the case had not been received thus far. State had filed charges of child sexual abuse against Adil at the Criminal Court. However the Court had cleared the MP of all charges in March 29.

An official of the PG office revealed that the request for the trial report had been made to the Criminal Court three days after the trial had ended. However, since the report is yet to be received, a second request had been to the Criminal Court today, official added.

Official further detailed that as soon as the trial report is received, the case would be reviewed and a decision pertaining to making an appeal to the High Court would be made.

Haveeru was unable to obtain a comment from the Criminal Court in relation to the matter.

Official also revealed that the trial report of Eydhafushi constituency MP Ahmed Saleem had been received and reviewing of the case was currently ongoing. Official added that a decision with regard to making an appeal would also be made after the assessment is completed.

Saleem had been charged with misusing authority for personal benefit. However on February 28, Criminal Court had found him not guilty of all charges.

Both the cases had been presided over by Criminal Court Judge Abdulla Didi.

Court regulation stipulates that any ruling of the lower court can be appealed at the High Court within 90 days of a respective verdict.
