LGA urges against using Council offices for politics

Local Government Authority (LGA) has called not to use council offices for political purposes. The monitoring body of the local councils, LGA on Tuesday stated that they have been receiving complaints about the use of council offices for political purposes.

LGA stated that the role of local councils is to provide basic services to the people from the State and to bring the services closer to the people. Hence the offices should refrain from political influence and should provide these services to the people equally and gain the trust of the people.

“Using councils and council offices for political purposes can undermine the confidence of the people. This authority (LGA) believes that this could disrupt the system by which these services are provided to the people. Hence, we urge all councils and council offices to refrain from leasing council property and equipment for political gatherings,” LGA stated.
