Cabinet yesterday had decided to incorporate the services of National Thalassaemia Centre and Blood Transfusion Centre, under a new institution named 'Maldivian Blood Services.' Though the decision has been made to merge the two establishments, the government is yet to disclose further details.
In addition, the Cabinet also advised President Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik to declare certain areas of Fuvammulah as environmentally preserved.
To that end, Cabinet advised the President to declare the Bandaara Kilhi wetland, the Dhanâ™dimagi Kilhi wetland, and the northern beach area of Fuvammulah Island as preserved areas.
While deliberating on a paper presented by the Ministry of Environment and Energy, members of the cabinet noted that Fuvammulah Island naturally possessed environmentally unique features, and a rich ecosystem.
