Home Ministry has stated that the report published by Housing Minister Mohamed Aslam and former National Security Advisor Ameen Faisal of former President Mohamed Nasheed's administration has discredited and defamed the Police. In response to the report by MDP, Home Ministry issued a statement Tuesday alleging that the report was baseless and was aimed at creating hatred among the people towards the police. Home Ministry also accused that the report had mislead the events which took place on February 6 and 7.
The Ministry also stressed that the report is intended to disgrace police and to facilitate the work of a certain political movement and that the Ministry condemned the report in its strongest sense.
âœWhile noting that the individual reputation of a person is a right that cannot be undermined, this report clearly mentions individual names, and this Ministry believes that the act of making false accusations on these officers is to intimidate their families.
The Ministry believes that these acts against the police are to ridicule and taunt the officers, hence the officers have their right to litigate the people responsible,✠the statement detailed.
Home Ministry claimed that the duty of the Police to uphold the constitution and the laws of the nation will not be deterred by such acts to tarnish the integrity of the Police.
The Ministry also assured that the police would continue to execute the duties assigned under Article 244 of the constitution.
