The wife of the Maldivian national who was killed after he had fallen from the eighteenth floor of a prominent hotel in Union Place, Colombo arrived in Sri Lanka on Friday (June 15). The Maldivian national who has been identified as 37 year old Mohamed Midhshah who died on Thursday (June 14), has left detectives attached to the Slave Island Police which is conducting the investigations baffled as to what might have transpired.
Police investigations have revealed that Midhshah had arrived in Sri Lanka for business purposes and had been staying at the Colombo Hilton Residencies.
On the fateful day Midhshah fell to his death, he was in the company of two other Maldivian nationals and two Sri Lankan prostitutes and another woman who is resident from Madagascar.
According to hotels staff who had given statements to the police, the Maldivian national had been under the influence of alcohol. They said that the women and the other two Maldivian men had also been drinking at the time.
It is yet unclear whether the Maldivian national death was a result of an accident, homicide or a suicide.
An officer attached to the Slave Island Police told Haveeru that they had questioned the two other Maldivian nationals and had released them. The two Sri Lankan prostitutes are currently being held for questioning.
“We are currently conducting further investigations to identify the reason behind his death. Our detectives have taken statements from hotel employees and eyewitnesses. We are not sure if the two Sri Lankan prostitutes had tried to rob him during the course of his death or if there was any foul play involved,†he said.
On Friday, the two women were produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrates Court. The police making submissions said that they have not established a link between the death of the Maldivian and the two females. However, the two were produced on charges of prostitution. The duo will be produced before court again on June 25.
