Nasheed's claims of elections this year is a blatant lie: Alhan

Feydhoo constituency MP Alhan Fahmy who quit the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) yesterday has alleged that the claims of an early presidential election this year by former President Mohamed Nasheed was a blatant lie. Alhan further alleged that the claims of an early election by Nasheed were to deceive MDP supporters in a bid to sustain the party’s current political activities.
Contrary to Nasheed’s promise of early polls, Alhan repeatedly stressed that there would not be an election this year.
“Even the other night, Nasheed had said that there would early elections. But I’m telling you that there would not be an early election. Commonwealth won’t come here to hold an election. Nasheed must heed what I say; there would be no early elections. That is a blatant lie,” Alhan stressed.
He also claimed that the only option that had been left for Nasheed to campaign for a return to the office was to claim that he had been ousted in a ‘coup’.
While heavily criticizing the former President, Alhan further alleged that Nasheed incited and encouraged “terrorism.”
To that end, Alhan claimed that he had been subject to various verbal attacks from Nasheed’s activists and stressed that the former President would not be allowed to roam the streets like a “mob boss.”
“Hereafter, if they repeat their previous actions, I would directly confront Nasheed on the street. Nasheed must not work to disrupt the peace and harmony of this nation,” Alhan added.
In addition to Alhan, former President of MDP Dr Ibrahim Didi and Secretary General Hassan Shah had also quit MDP yesterday. Tweet Bookmark Print Badge the Comments!
