Moderator of the All Party Roadmap Talks Ahmed Mujthaba has said that the failure by the participants of the three day retreat of the Talks to reach a consensus was due to insufficient dialogue. Speaking to reporters after the three day retreat which began on Thursday and ended yesterday afternoon, Mujthaba claimed that discussions pertaining to the first item of the agenda, which is to seek means of resolving ongoing political strife in the country, had not taken place as desired.
Though six items had been entailed in the agreed agenda, only the first item had been debated in all of the four meetings of the retreat.
When asked if he would hail the retreat as a success, Mujthaba said that the result of the discussions âœwas as expected at this juncture.â
He further detailed that first item of the agenda would be up for discussion even when the Talks recommences. In addition, the Talks would resume after dialogue with individual members of the Talks, Moderator added.
The three day retreat held in Bandos Island Resort and Spa had included four sessions over a course of 15 hours. Political Party Talks Moderatorâ™s Office revealed that four focus sessions and two breakout sessions had also taken place during the retreat.
The retreat ended without any headway after the pro-government political parties and opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) had failed to reach a consensus over any of the issues.
