Similar to previous years, the government has decided to mark the World Environment Day next Tuesday by banning motorists, forcing them to be on foot for six hours. Transport Authority in a notice last Tuesday, banned the use of vehicles throughout the Maldives from 4.00 in the evening till 10.00 in the night.
However, vehicles carrying departure passengers and other vehicles not included in the ban would be issued a special permit from the Authority.
To that end, such permits must be displayed on the vehicles in a way it could be visible to the public, the notice added.
The notice further detailed that even during the time period, ambulances, vehicles of the security forces, special needs peopleâ™s vehicles and permitted public transport vehicles would be allowed to remain operational.
Transport Authority also warned a MVR750 fine for those who do not comply with the notice under Article 65 of the Transportation Act.
