State has decided to go to court in order reclaim the Usfasgandu area issued by the Housing Ministry to Male City Council under an agreement. Deputy Solicitor General of the Attorney Generalâ™s office Ahmed Usham detailed that in order to regain the Usfagandu area leased to opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) for its political activities from the City Council, the case would filed in the Civil Court tomorrow.
The decision had been taken as the area is presently being used in violation of the agreement between the Housing Ministry and the City Council, Usham detailed.
âœWe have decided to litigate the matter as the City Council has failed to conform to the regulations and agreement. The cabinet had also decided to reclaim the area due to the violation of the agreement and the regulations by the Council. But the Council has also refused to comply with that decision,â he added.
While the decision has been made to litigate the Usfasgandu issue, Police last Tuesday had raided and searched the area under a court order.
But the Civil Court had issued a temporary stay order when the police had attempted to dismantle the area on the same night.
However, after the Civil Courtâ™s ruling had been appealed in the High Court, the lower courtâ™s order had been temporarily nullified.
