City Council resorts to harassment every time: Minister

Housing Minister Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said that the Male City Council seems to be harassing the ministry over every matter and expressed his disappointment over the council's actions. During an interview with Haveeru last week the minister said that he had met with members of the Male City Council on two separate occasions and assumed that matters would progress well but the council acted in reverse of whatever was said.

“…Even if there is a regulation written in Dhivehi they interpret it the complete opposite of what it means. If that is the political policy they adhere to then I don’t think the people have to accept them. Resorting to harassment and obstruction over every matter is their order of the day,” he said.

He alleged that members of the Male City Council besides “lying” excessively were also “deceitful.”

“Rational thinking is not utilized at all (by the City Council). Civilized people do not behave the way they do. If the people of Male are to elect them a second time over, that’s conveying a very sad message. If the people we’re to deal with do not handle matters rationally how are we supposed to deal with them? We (the ministry) have to let go of certain things and provide the necessary services to the people,” he explained.

The minister revealed that given the ministry has to contact the Male City Council on a daily basis the “harassment” has led to several challenges.
