Noonu Atoll Holhudhoo police station has been torched and severely damaged. Police official stated that the newly built police station in Holhudhoo had been torched at around 2.40 this morning. Police detailed that there have been no arrests made regarding the matter.
The official claimed that the incident had destroyed all the furniture in the building, three police bicycles and a motorcycle had been damaged beyond use.
Holhudhoo council President Abdul Azeez Ibrahim said that “all preparations were completed to open the station†before the place was torched. He said that it is yet unclear why it was done and who was behind the crime.
“There are no political disputes in this island, yet crime rates are increasing,†Azeez said.
Some police officers and protesters have been injured in the ongoing opposition led protests in the capital Male recently.
