Police officer was stabbed to death in Kaafu Atoll Kaashidhoo late last night. Police confirmed that Lance Corporal Adam Haleem, 26 of the island was stabbed while in police uniform and on his way to duty. Island Councilor detailed that Haleem had died in the Kaashidhoo health centre while receiving treatment.
An official of the health centre confirmed that Haleem had a 5 inch deep stab wound in the chest area while he was rushed in. Official added that the victim had succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the centre.
Island Councilor Majid Sulaiman said that Police had arrested a local man named Samaah in relation to the incident. According to Majid, the man taken into police custody had an extensive criminal record and had been transferred to house arrest only yesterday afternoon.
President Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik, Home Minister Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed and many prominent officials of the Police were gathered near the official jetty as Haleem’s body was brought to Male this morning.
