Police Integrity Commission on Thursday said that the breath tests carried out on some police officers following accusations that they had been intoxicated had been cleared as the results of all the officers tested came back negative. In a press release the commission detailed that it had carried out breath analysis tests on all the special operations officers on duty controlling the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) protest near State Trading Organisation (STO) on Wednesday night and that none of the officers had been inebriated.
Breath tests were carried out on the suspected officers on duty by the commission members at the police station. Haveeru is aware that 35 officers on duty on Wednesday night were tested.
The commission also called on MDP to refrain from verbally inciting violence in their protests and to work towards maintaining peace within society.
