PPM to gather against attacks on security forces

Pro-government Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has decided to hold a gathering in protest of the attacks against Police and military officers. Speaking during a press conference, PPM council member Ahmed ‘Maaz’ Saleem detailed that the party had decided to hold a consultation gathering next Friday to stop the recent targeted attacks on security forces.

PPM urged the families of police and military officers and everyone who are against the attacks to participate in the gathering.  To that end, the party revealed that during the gathering the participation would share opinions on a way to prevent the attacks on members of the security forces.

Saleem stressed that while a police officer had been attacked and murdered in Kaafu Atoll Kaashidhoo on Monday night, other police officers have also been subject to such near fatal attacks.

“Police officers do not have the guarantee that they would be able to return back home once they step outside. While the police officer was murdered other such attacks are being carried out against officers. The other night two police officers in uniform had been stripped. We have to rise up against such offences and attacks,” Saleem said.

He further alleged that such attacks are being incited by leaders of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and added that “criminal activists” were actively involved in MDP protests with former President Mohamed Nasheed.
