Police commissioner Abdulla Riyaz has urged the police integrity commission to release the results of the narcotics test carried out by the commission following a complaint filed by an individual that some police officers had been intoxicated. In an interview to Haveeru, police commissioner said that he believes that the police integrity commission should have released the results on the same night.
“Hence I insist on publishing the results as soon as possible. I have now requested for it†Riyaz said.
Police Integrity Commission President Shahindha Ismail said on Wednesday that the results of the breath test will be released after a meeting between the commission members.
“We would likely publicize it by a press release. We have yet been unable to hold a commission meeting,†Shahindha said.
The breath test was carried out on the police officers on duty to control the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) protest on Wednesday night by the police integrity commission at the police station as the protest was being carried out. Haveeru had learned that a total of 35 officers on duty were tested.
While the commission had been reported that police had been intoxicated, some senior MDP officials speaking at their protest on Wednesday evening near Bandaara Mosque claimed that the police were inebriated.
