Aasandha Company has stressed that the company has nearly depleted its finances due to the delay in receiving payments for national health insurance scheme 'Aasandha' from the State. Managing Director Mohamed Shafaz detailed that the last payment from the Finance Ministry was received in February.
âœEarlier Finance Ministry used to give us around four payments every month. But since February we are yet to receive a single payment. They have said that they would make the payments soon. At present we are using our own funds to cover Aasandha expenses,â Shafaz said.
He stressed that if payments from the State are not received soon it would lead to major issues in pending payments to clinics and hospitals.
âœWe have now withheld payments of government institutions. We are only making payments of private and institutions in the islets. The reason is that if the islets donâ™t receive payments the services in the entire island would be disrupted,â he detailed.
Aasandha Company stated that an estimated MVR 450 million would be spent within the scheme up to the end of Thursday. However, the Company stated that the exact amount will only be known after all due bills are paid and the other aspects are taken in to account.
Parliament Finance Committee had stated that while MVR720 million had been allocated for Aasandha in the State budget, the government had agreed to pay MVR909.4 million to Aasandha Company.
