Famed lawyer found stabbed to death

Famed lawyer and writer Ahmed Najeeb was found stabbed to death last night in a house in Maafannu. It is believed that Najeeb had been brutally stabbed and his face had been mauled with a sharp object. A family member told Haveeru that a knife with a missing handle had been lodged in the victim’s chin when the body was discovered in a large garbage can.

Police had arrested a man and a young woman in relation to the murder last night, both believed to be from Maafannu Masroora where Najeeb’s body was discovered in a room in the far corner of the second floor.

The man arrested by police Ahmed Murrath, 29 is believed to have an extensive criminal record. The woman is believed to be the 18 year old girlfriend of the male suspect.

Unofficial reports indicate that Najeeb had been the lawyer involved in dividing the house, Masroora among the respective heirs.

Following Najeeb’s murder the Supreme Court and the Attorney General’s (AG) office had issued statements condemning the “inhumane” act of violence.

Supreme Court in the statement had assured that the Judiciary would do everything possible to ensure the safety and security of lawyers and pledged justice for the victim of such a remorseless act of violence.

AG Office reiterated the Supreme Court’s stand while adding that lawyers now served in a dangerous environment and stressed that actions must be intensified to ensure that such acts would not be repeated in future.

Najeeb’s funeral is to take place this afternoon after Asr prayers.
