Maldives Meteorological Service today urged caution in sea transportation during the present Hulhangu (southwest) monsoon rains. MET office stated that heavy rain and thunderstorms with wind speed of 45 - 50 mph are expected over central and northern atolls. Reports indicate wind speeds of 52 mph were recorded in Male on Sunday.
An official from MET office stated that the most rainfall was observed in the northern regions where 44 ml of rain was recorded. The official also stated that more rainfall is expected within the next 24 hours.
âœThis is Hulhangu (southwest) monsoon rains. Hence scattered rain with occasional heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected from time to time. Wind speeds are expected to intensify during showers. We advise seafarers to take precautions,â official said.
